The OC.
The O.C. is a very well known hit series. The O.C. stands for Orange County where the setting of the show takes place. The Series lasted from 2003-2007 with having four complete seasons. This series was put on the air with the audience of younger viewers. It was a huge series and a lot of people were sad that it ended.
The main cast members were:
Peter Gallagher as Sandy Cohen
Benjamin McKenzie as Ryan Atwood
Atom Brody as Seth Cohen
Kelly Rowan as Kirsten Cohen
Rachel Bilson as Summer Roberts
Mischa Barton as Marissa Cooper
Tate Donavan as Jimmy Cooper
Melinda Clarke as Julie Cooper
Autumn Reeser as Taylor Townsend
Chris Carmack as Luke Ward
Willa Holland as Kaitlin Cooper
Alan Dale as Caleb Nichol
The Characters and they're portrayal to the OC
Ben Mackenzie
as- Ryan Mackenzie
This character made the plot of this whole series. He introduced us to the Cohen family by being adopted to them after Sandy Cohen takes him in, after feeling sorry for him. Sandy met him by being his attorney.
Ryan soon falls in love with the girl next door Marissa Cooper. His well known saying to her in the first episode is " ill be whoever you want me to be".
Hes known as the bad ass of the show. Ryan was in every episode shot of the O.C.
Mischa Barton
as - Marissa Cooper
Mischa plays a leading role in the O.C. She lives a rich style life in Newport Beach. Her character goes through a lot of difficult things with her family and her relationship. She is off and on with Benjamin McKenzie ( Ryan Atwood) in a relationship. Marissa also dies in Season three of the O.C. in a car cras h, so she doesn't appear in the season four.
Adam Brody plays Seth Cohen in this show. He's probably the funniest character in the show, some stuff that comes out of his mouth is so funny, for example here are some funny quotes from "Seth Cohen":
I love the one from episode 5, where Caleb's young girlfriend Gabrielle is swimming in front of the guys, and Seth says things like "is it wrong that I find my potential grandma hot?"'
OR
Seth: Dad, those eyebrows are out of control!
Sandy: Lucky you...they're genetic!
OR
Ryan: Come here Seth, its only rain
Seth: I am a kid from California, I will melt if i go outside.
OR
Summer: Your Jewish?
Seth: Yes, thats why i feel so comfortable in this dessert heat.
OR
seth-"I'm a man now. And not just like an after your Bar-Mitzvah man, but a man man. I had sex with a girl. Summer to be more exact"
Ryan-"How was it?"
Seth-"I had sex"
Ryan-"That bad huh?

This video was showen to me by my friend Dakota Halfpenny. Im not usually the kinda girl to listen to this kind of music. she showed this video to me thinking i was going to HATE it, but it reality i LOVED it. I thought it was funny at the end, and good music. She was very suprised. So this video has made me open my thoughts about other kinds of music genres some thought that they're suprisingly ok.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/21/arts/television/21emmy.html?hp
A) "Suprises, not sweeps, at the emmys."
- about the emmys. where it took place and such.
- what the nomanees were, and who stole the prizes.
- talked alot about the 'Mad Men' and the ' 30 Rock'
2.) Find an article that comes from a news service. Briefly summarize it.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/01/world/middleeast/01iran.html?scp=7&sq=news%20service%20articles&st=cse
A) "Iran News Agency Reports Prisioner Died of Abuse"
- article reports alot of physical stress put on the prisioner along with conditions of imprisionment, and repeated blows and harsh physical treatment.
-he was 25, and one of the dozens who had died.
-the way was delayed, 70 min's on the way to the hospital.
- millions disputed when they took the streets to protest. When they were later crushed by the police and the armed militaries.
3.) What are the main differences between the two articles?
A) The main difference between the two different articles is they're from differnent countries, and they are seen as a different prespective, from both the writers.
4.) Find an example of a.) hard news
A) "MAZDA 2 COMING TO US IN 2010"
http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/17/mazda2-coming-to-the-us-in-2010/?scp=5&sq=hard%20news%20report&st=cse
- The title even recaps it into the hard news categorie.
- The whole article itself is not long it gets straight to the point of ,
who= Jim S'ullivan, chief of the Mazda company.
What= the car is coming to the US, and says it's coming to Canada about the same time.
Where- Canada and US, coming from Europe and Japan
Why- because it's a good solid, cheap car and they're putting it on the market here then, so consumers can buy it, and then they will make a profit.
When- 2010
b.)human interest news
A) " A Promicing Life Ended In A Lab Basement"
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/15/nyregion/15yale.html
-Valedictorian of the class, loved by all was given alot of money of scolarships after applying for 102 places. She was then given $160,000.
- She wen to University of Rochester
- Her life was ended when she was found in a science building where the sucurity was told to be excellent. with three levels of security and two swipes of security cards.
- They then found her body in the wall of the science lab.
-hundreds of family and friends and students, went to a candlelight to show gratitue towards this young lady.
-they found the killers clothes in the wall aswell.
** this is a example of HUMAN INTREST, first of all because people would care about a young girl, she was oubviously popular, and people cared about her, the hundreds of people showing up for the candlelight shows it.
http://www.jurgita.com/articles-id2429.html
- " ANGELA JOLIE " -
- everyone has an opinion on her life, family, carreer, and her husband Brad Pitt.
- it seems to be that Angela Jolie is the centre of Attention these days.
-In 1999 She appeared in two movie, which made her one of the best actresses in the world.
* This is a form of sationalism because everything is blown way out of porpotion.
5.) Find a story that contains bias or subjectivity. What evidence do you have that it is bias? Give an example.
http://media-bias.suite101.com/article.cfm/newspaper_bias_in_reporting
- This story shows how the newspapers and the media today is bias.
- it tells how the newspaper, magazines and commercials are bias, (Media) in general is bias.
- Lets say the newspaper article is done by a mother on the team, it would be bias maybe talking about one team over the other or saying the one team is better, or her son is better. they would get a better opinion on it.
6.) Find three stories from different cities in your province. Then find three stories from different provinces and three from other countries.
"Penalty shot seals Sailors' 4-3 win over Mount Forest" - this is from the Goderich Signal Star.
" Town debuts a new e-look" - In the Goderich Signal Star.
"Stephanie Rangels Found her Killer" - Toronto Sun.
"Home away from home" - The Telegram- founded in Newfoundland.
"Vancouver Island cyclist finds boy lost in woods"- Vancouver Sun.
7. How does the tone or content of the stories differ, if at that?
-These articles are the same in the way that they all want to notiofy the local public about how they're kids are doing in hockey, or how the old man is at home, or how they found a kid in the woods, they all just want to have good articles and they are all in the same format, who, what, where, why and when.
8.) Find five stories that you think aim at five different groups of people (i.e teens, older men, housewives, working women, college boys, etc).. Examine the front section. What subject areas are most represented in the the stories you see in that section? (i.e. car, crime, economics, etc).
http://roomfordebate.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/20/when-its-more-than-a-headache/
